High-quality, Advanced Oral Surgery in Norwalk

No one enjoys hearing they need to undergo oral surgery. However, these treatments are usually necessary to preserve the health of your teeth and gums. At Norwalk Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we are committed to providing top-tier, compassionate care to those in our community. Dr. Kevin S. McLaughlin and Dr. Michael F. Trofa have received advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery which allows them to complete most procedures at our Norwalk, CT, practice, from simple wisdom tooth extractions to complex oral surgeries such as dental implants

Dental implant surgery model.

Dental implant surgery can be completed at Norwalk Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Oral Surgery Procedures

We offer a wide range of oral surgery procedures at our practice. Some of the most common treatments include:

  • Dental implants: Crafted from medical-grade titanium, dental implants are small posts designed to replace the roots of missing teeth. Implants can be restored with crowns, bridges, or dentures.
  • Wisdom tooth extraction: Our doctors have undergone extensive training to perform wisdom tooth extraction to prevent misalignment and other oral health issues.
  • Pre-prosthetic surgery: Patients receiving a full or partial denture or other prosthetic may require tooth extraction, bone grafting, or other preparatory treatments prior to the placement of their restoration.
  • Sleep apnea and TMJ treatment: When nonsurgical methods are not successful, we can perform procedures to alleviate symptoms of TMJ disorder and sleep apnea.
  • Bone grafts and sinus lifts: Individuals who have insufficient jawbone density may require prerequisite procedures before dental implant placement. We can perform ridge augmentation, sinus lifts, and other treatments to adequately prepare the jawbone.

At Norwalk Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, our mission is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art setting.

Preparing for Oral Surgery

Preparing for your oral surgery procedure can alleviate stress and fears of the unknown. Here are a few guidelines that may help:

  • Discuss your treatment in detail: If you have questions regarding your treatment, just ask. Our team is happy to address any concerns you may have.
  • Understand your post-operative instructions: It is a good idea to review your post-surgical guidelines well in advance. By doing so, you can make adequate preparations. For example, visiting the pharmacy and grocery store a few days before your appointment allows you to be able to go home and rest immediately after your surgery.
  • Arrange for transportation: If you will be undergoing sedation, you must have a friend or family member accompany you to and from your appointment.
  • Dress comfortably: Choose loose-fitting, short-sleeved clothing to wear the day of your surgery. Be sure to leave jewelry and contact lenses at home.
  • Eat a soft, nutritious diet: Stock your kitchen with healthy, soft foods such as yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, and protein drinks. Patients should also avoid using straws for the first few days.

How to Expedite Your Recovery

To enjoy a speedy and successful recovery, be sure to follow your post-operative guidelines closely. In particular, take all prescribed medications as directed and avoid smoking, which can seriously hinder the healing process. We have a 24/7 answering service available. Therefore, any concerns you may have during recovery can be addressed in a timely manner. There is always a doctor on-call. We are also open on Saturdays to assist patients with questions or concerns.
